New York State and the Federal Government provide opportunities for 8(a) and MWBE businesses to level the playing field within the private and public sectors.
Neither 8(a) nor MWBE certification is a guarantee for business, but minority and women-owned firms capable of producing quality products and services at competitive prices have a more competitive position. Certified Participant Businesses can:
• Receive sole-source contracts, up to a ceiling of $3 million for goods and services and $5 million for manufacturing.
• Benefit from policies that encourage agencies to award a certain percentage of their contracts to small and disadvantaged (8a) businesses.
• Form joint ventures and teams to bid on contracts, overcoming the effects of contract bundling.
